How to get Restoration Right

At Bell’s Décor we don’t just spray and decorate new builds and commercial buildings, but are also tasked with the restoration decoration of many historic buildings of great significance, including old country houses and Victorian schools.

While we take pride in every job we do, there are certain things you cannot do when restoring old buildings back to their former glory. This is because the properties are commonly listed, precious, and are often important fixtures in the communities of small towns and villages.

This means you need a decorator who is experienced and knowledgeable when dealing with restorations. At Bell’s Décor, we’re thoroughly acquainted, as our team of decorators boasts years of experience dealing with delicate architecture.

What does it take to complete a historic building restoration that you love? Read on to find out, and check out our website for more tips and tricks from across the decoration industry.

Research

The first thing we get right when restoring historic buildings is doing our research to ensure that we know the time period, design style and contemporary materials down to the ground – as no historic building is the same, especially when compared to newer, more modern cut-and-paste layouts.

This takes a specialist with real passion and dedication when it comes to what these buildings represent. A team that understands how important it is to honour the original architecture and design as closely as possible.

While the Bell’s Décor team is already vastly experienced, we’ll always listen to you to understand any of the building’s unique quirks.

Modern techniques

When renovating historical buildings, it’s important to keep the original architecture firmly in mind, but it’s always a balance between preservation and innovation. We specialise in bringing old structures into the 21st century while preserving what makes them so unique.

For example, our decorators are specially trained in the use of top of the range, modern HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spraying machines, which are perfect for delicate designs and installations found around old homes. Due to their delicate touch, HVLP machines are also great for window sills.

Specialist Skills

Not only do older homes usually require a more delicate touch, but they are also built with some materials that are rarely used in the commercial construction industry of today, or outside of grand, stately homes.

Our specialist decorating team has members with experience across a range of applications, including marbling brickwork to stunningly high standards that’ll have you believing it really is marble.

We also do wood graining, which is a similar but no less tricky process of making brickwork appear to have a wooden finish. Bell’s are also well versed in Gold Leafing, making sure your home has that shining, royal detail that it was always supposed to have.
