A specialist interior design company created the overall look of the home, choosing the colour schemes and materials used in all areas of the building and we provided the quality finish and execution of the design over a five month period. This included decorating hallways, fire escapes, dining areas, kitchens, bathrooms and no less than 86 bedrooms.
The decorating
The client’s chosen style included four different types of feature walls in the bedrooms, including patterned wallpaper that needed to be applied with precision to ensure the design was perfect. As well as wallpaper, we also installed 2.4 metre sheets of Tektura wide vinyl in a selection of bedrooms. This elegant wallcovering is made from fabric backed vinyl and requires a special technique to apply it accurately. Fortunately, the Bell’s Decor team is certified to NVQ level 3, an advanced craft level of decorating techniques that includes the correct application of different wallcoverings.
Our decorators also had to take into consideration specially themed walls and areas. For example, a whole floor of the care home was dedicated to being dementia friendly, which included painting the doors leading to staff or service areas the same colour as the walls. This is so that the doors seamlessly blend in with the hallway walls, therefore lowering the chances for confusion among residents with dementia.
Throughout this project we used Crown’s clean extreme wipe-clean paint to not only achieve the high-end style the client desired but to ensure it would cope with the demands of a busy care home and stay looking pristine for many years to come. Our fantastic Graco Mk 5 airless spraying machines were put to good use throughout this project as they allow us to apply paint directly onto plaster and quickly cover a large area. This helped us save precious time on a project that had a tight deadline all while delivering a fantastic finish. As well as utilising all our decorating know-how and top of the range technology, our experienced team worked tirelessly into the night and at weekends to ensure this project was finished on time.
Overcoming the challenges
As this was such a large project it wasn’t without its challenges and around three quarters of the way through, we met a rather large stumbling block. Crown, a leading manufacturer of quality paint, changed their product codes which meant we couldn’t be sure which paint would correspond to the one we had already applied to the walls. Rather than simply guessing and hoping it was the right colour, we asked a Brewers rep to visit the property and scan walls several times to make sure we got the exact match.
The result
Encore Care Home is delighted with the exceptional quality of finish our decorating team managed to achieve in every single area of this large project. They were also extremely pleased that the project was finished on schedule thanks to our dedication to getting the work done on time, without compromising on quality, even if this means working around the clock.
